The Temperate Northern Atlantic (TN) marine realm encompasses the temperate and subtropical waters of the North Atlantic, including the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and the northern Gulf of Mexico. It is a region of high productivity, influenced by major current systems like the Gulf Stream. The realm supports diverse marine life, including significant fisheries and various species of seagrasses. It serves as a transition zone between the cold Arctic realm to the north and the Tropical Atlantic realm to the south. The Mediterranean Basin, a major subregion, is particularly noted for its high levels of marine endemism and complex history of human use. Coastal habitats range from rocky shores in the north to extensive salt marshes and estuaries in the western Atlantic.
