Harvest seasons are patterns rather than fixed calendar dates. Rainfall, temperature, altitude, latitude, cultivar, plant age, irrigation and recent extremes can shift flowering, fruiting and seed maturity. Readiness should be checked on the actual plant.

A productive subtropical Australian garden showing different seasonal stages within one continuous landscape, from ripe fruit and lush leafy crops to flowering plants, mature seed heads and resting vegetation. The scene reflects how harvest opportunities and plant growth change naturally across the year.

What This Index Covers

This index organises harvest information by region, season, species, plant part and maturity signs. It includes cultivated and, where lawful and appropriately evidenced, wild resources. It also links to storage, preparation, sustainability and local legal checks.

Browse Resources

Browse the resource areas currently organised under this index. Links can be added as reviewed articles and records are published.

Browse by region - Use local climate and place rather than a national calendar alone.

Browse by season - Treat months as likely windows, not guarantees.

Maturity signs - Check colour, firmness, dryness, seed release or other species-specific cues.

Weather and timing - Consider rain, heat, frost, smoke and disease conditions.

Responsible collection - Leave regeneration, wildlife food and healthy source plants.

After harvest - Move promptly into suitable preparation or storage.

Coverage and Evidence

Seasonal records should state location, year, plant identity and observed stage. Historical timing may shift under unusual weather or climate change. Never use a calendar to identify an unknown plant or assume permission. Check current local conditions, conservation and biosecurity status, and whether the source population can sustain collection.

The Earth's Resource Map and Learn library are being built progressively. Indexed means that a topic or resource can be connected to its identity, source and broad context; it does not mean that every claim has been verified or localised. Evidence is assessed claim by claim. Where information is missing, uncertain, restricted or location-dependent, that limitation should remain visible.
