Tool Care & Safety

Aug 20
2 min read

Tool care is part of safe use. Soil, sap, moisture, loose fasteners, damaged handles and blunt or chipped edges make tools less predictable and can spread plant pests and diseases. Maintenance should follow the tool maker's instructions and stay within the user's competence.

Coverage and Evidence

Cleaning and disinfection are different: cleaning removes material, while a disinfectant only works under its stated conditions. Never sharpen powered equipment while connected to energy. Wear protection suited to the actual hazard, and do not let PPE create reduced grip, visibility or movement. Replace tools when safe repair cannot be confirmed.

The Earth's Resource Map and Learn library are being built progressively. Indexed means that a topic or resource can be connected to its identity, source and broad context; it does not mean that every claim has been verified or localised. Evidence is assessed claim by claim. Where information is missing, uncertain, restricted or location-dependent, that limitation should remain visible.
