Garden work is easier and safer when a task is broken into preparation, action, clean-up and follow-up. The correct method still depends on the plant, soil, weather, tools and physical capability of the person doing the work.

What This Index Covers

This index organises step-by-step tasks for planting, transplanting, staking, watering, mulching, pruning, weeding, composting, soil sampling, seed collection, cleaning and seasonal maintenance. Each guide should state tools, materials, hazards, timing and completion checks.

Browse Resources

Browse the resource areas currently organised under this index. Links can be added as reviewed articles and records are published.

Planting and transplanting - Prepare roots, hole, depth, backfill, water and support.

Watering and mulching - Check soil and apply water or cover without creating new stress.

Pruning and training - Set a purpose, choose tools and make species-appropriate cuts.

Weeding and groundcover - Identify plants, reduce spread and protect soil.

Composting and soil care - Manage inputs, moisture, airflow, hygiene and maturity.

Seasonal checks - Inspect structures, tools, irrigation, pests and weather readiness.

Coverage and Evidence

A general task guide cannot account for every site or person. Stop when conditions, equipment or plant identity are uncertain. Check heat, storms, slopes, animals, sharp tools, lifting and underground services before work. Clean tools and footwear where pests, diseases or weed seeds could move between areas.

The Earth's Resource Map and Learn library are being built progressively. Indexed means that a topic or resource can be connected to its identity, source and broad context; it does not mean that every claim has been verified or localised. Evidence is assessed claim by claim. Where information is missing, uncertain, restricted or location-dependent, that limitation should remain visible.
