Multispecies Defence Systems

Plants do not respond to threats alone. Predators, parasitoids, competitors, microbes and neighbouring plants can influence damage and recovery. These interactions form changing food webs and defence pathways rather than a guaranteed protective shield.

Coverage and Evidence

A predator being present does not mean it will control a pest below a damaging level. A plant association that works in one trial may fail under different densities, seasons or pest pressure. “Natural” substances can still harm people, wildlife and beneficial organisms. Correct identification, monitoring and thresholds come first. Use registered products exactly as labelled and choose actions that protect non-target species.
