Soil testing replaces guesswork with observations and measurements. A useful test begins with a clear question, representative samples and a method suited to the decision. Field checks can reveal patterns, while accredited laboratory analysis is often needed for reliable nutrient, salinity, contaminant or amendment decisions.

Coverage and Evidence

Results are only as reliable as the sample and method. Home kits can be useful for screening but should not be treated as equivalent to accredited laboratory analysis. Nutrient targets differ by plant, soil and production goal; adding fertiliser without need can damage roots and waterways. Suspected contamination, acid sulfate soil, severe salinity or unexplained plant losses require appropriate professional advice.
