Managing Shared Resources

Aug 20
2 min read

Shared resources can reduce cost and waste while giving more people access to tools, seed, spaces and knowledge. They also create responsibilities: items must be safe, traceable, fairly available, maintained and used within legal, biosecurity and cultural limits.

Community volunteers organise and check shared gardening resources in a well-managed outdoor workspace, with hand tools, seed containers, propagation trays, compost materials and young plants ready for practical community use.

Knowledge Is Not a Resource to Share Without Permission

Coverage and Evidence

A shared item should not be assumed safe or suitable because another person used it. Establish inspection, fault-reporting, cleaning and withdrawal procedures. Seed and plant material need accurate identity and origin records. Personal, cultural or sensitive ecological information requires consent and access controls. Publish clear terms without shifting unreasonable risk onto participants.

The Earth's Resource Map and Learn library are being built progressively. Indexed means that a topic or resource can be connected to its identity, source and broad context; it does not mean that every claim has been verified or localised. Evidence is assessed claim by claim. Where information is missing, uncertain, restricted or location-dependent, that limitation should remain visible.
